About Us

Welcome to ABCofUC

Hello, and welcome! I’m auntiebiotics, the person behind this site.

Why I started this

I’ve been through the benefits system myself. I’ve claimed ESA, and I’ve claimed both DLA and PIP, so I know first-hand how confusing the forms can be, how stressful the assessments feel, and how draining it is to wait for a decision that affects your everyday life.

When I was going through it, I would have loved somewhere friendly to ask questions, compare experiences, and hear from people who actually understood. So I built that place.

What this place is

ABCofUC is a community forum for anyone dealing with UK benefits. You might be filling in your first form, preparing for an assessment, thinking about a mandatory reconsideration or appeal, or just needing to vent after a rough week. All of that is welcome here.

You’ll find:

  • Real experiences from people who have been there
  • Tips and pointers for tackling forms and assessments
  • Support on the days when the system gets you down
  • A no-judgement space, because nobody here needs to justify themselves

Who’s behind it

Right now, it’s just me. I run the site on my own, so please bear with me if replies or moderation aren’t instant. I’m doing my best to keep things friendly, tidy, and useful. If you’d ever like to help out as a volunteer moderator down the line, I’d love to hear from you.

What I’m not

I’m not a benefits adviser, a solicitor, or connected to the DWP in any way. I’m simply someone who’s lived it and wants to make it a bit easier for others. Everything here is shared experience rather than professional advice, so for anything complicated, please check with a service like Citizens Advice or Turn2us. There’s more detail on our Disclaimer page.

A few gentle ground rules

  • Be kind. Everyone here is dealing with something.
  • Look after your privacy. Please don’t share your address, National Insurance number, or other personal details.
  • Respect other people’s stories and choices.

Full details are in our [Community Guidelines].

Say hello

Come and introduce yourself, ask a question, or simply have a read around. You don’t have to post to be part of the community, and there’s no such thing as a silly question.

Thanks for being here.
