What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device when you visit. They help sites work properly, remember your choices and understand how people use them.
Our promise
We use as few cookies as we can. Essential cookies are always on, because the site can’t work without them. Analytics cookies are optional, and we only use them if you say yes.
How you control your cookies
When you first visit abcofuc.co.uk, you’ll see a cookie banner with two choices:
- Accept all: we’ll use essential cookies and analytics cookies.
- Accept necessary only: we’ll only use the essential cookies the site needs to work. No analytics cookies are set.
Our banner is provided by the Pressidium Cookie Consent plugin. We use the WP Consent API to pass your choice to our other tools, so analytics only run if you’ve said yes.
You can also delete or block cookies in your browser, though this may stop parts of the site working, such as logging in to the forum.
You can change your choice at any time by clicking the cookie settings button in the bottom-left corner of every page
The cookies we use
Essential cookies (always on)
These keep the site and forum working safely. They include:
- Cookies that remember your cookie choice, set by our cookie banner and the WP Consent API
- Login cookies, which keep you signed in to your account (only set if you log in)
- Cookies set by our forum software, wpForo, which keep the forum working for members
- Security and settings cookies set by WordPress
They last from the length of your visit up to about a year, depending on the cookie. They aren’t used for advertising or tracking.
Analytics cookies (optional, only with your consent)
These help us understand how people use ABC of UC, such as which pages are most popular, so we can improve the site. We use Google Analytics through Site Kit by Google. The cookies are called _ga and _ga_ followed by a code, and they can last up to two years.
Google processes this information and may handle data outside the UK. You can read more in Google’s privacy policy. If you choose “Accept necessary only”, these cookies are not set.
Advertising and marketing cookies
We don’t use any.
Content from other sites
We don’t currently embed content from other sites that sets its own cookies. If that changes, we’ll update this policy.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have rights over your personal information, including the right to see it and ask us to correct or delete it. Please see our Privacy Policy to find out how we look after your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if we start using a new tool. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a big change, we’ll ask for your consent again.
